HRH Diana - Princess Of Wales
This portrait was taken on 27th September 1994 in my studio in Wimpole Street. It was chosen by the Palace as the official photograph for 1995.
My photographic session was set for Tuesday 27th September, I spent hours arranging the studio and making sure everything was in place. Lighting, cameras filled with film, flowers, refreshments etc. All perfect.
I was filled with anticipation and wanted to feel relaxed and in control.
Monday, the day before, I went swimming and still smelling of chlorine with wet hair, I dashed to Harvey Nichols as it opened. I did not wish to be seen by anyone I knew. I entered the lift and in doing so, I was followed by some Japanese people and one very tall elegant lady. I stood at the back. The lady came to stand next to me. To my horror it was Princess Diana, she sniffed and turned to look at me and moved to the front in silence.
Having ended the photo session the next day, she thanked me for having her and said what a good time she had. As I opened the door for her to go, she remarked “haven’t we met somewhere before”?
We both laughed.
